ARCHITECTURE ONDOYANTE

1st Edition, Frac Lorraine, Metz, 2014

2nd edition, exhibition Gianni Pettena.  About non conscious architecture,
Galleria Giovanni Bonelli, Milan, 2017

This installation was chosen by Frac Lorraine to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of a space they had already defined ‘unclassifiable’, where the aim was, therefore, always that of ‘subverting and mixing up knowledge’ and therefore of experimenting. Hence, choosing an ‘anarchitect’ seemed most appropriate for the purpose at hand, because his proposal to confuse the well-defined and somewhat austere space of the building that hosts the Frac, wrapping it in light and movement would have overturned the grain of static, centuries-old architecture.

Indeed, the operation carried out here ventured well beyond challenging the static nature of architecture through the inevitable movement of strips covering a building already accomplished at the Athens Biennial in 2009. There, in fact, the building was but an anonymous, contemporary construction in the suburbs, where what was being challenged was more banality than staticity, in no way involving history, which is, instead, central to the Metz installation.
